INTERPHEX 2016: FETTE COMPACTING FEC40 - NEXT GENERATION CAPSULE FILLING TECHNOLOGY

In the form of the FEC40, Fette Compacting is presenting its first capsule filling machine. With an output volume of up to 400,000 capsules per hour, it sets new standards in the area of capsule filling - twice as many compared to other plants established on the market. Thanks to the compact design displayed by the FEC40, spatial requirements remain unchanged, thereby reducing production costs per 1,000 capsules by up to 30 percent. This performance is made possible by the patented Duplex Concept offered by Fette Compacting, whereby the machine features a dual capsule filling process.

New York/Schwarzenbek, April 26, 2016 - Capsules are second only to tablets when it comes to dosage forms for pharmaceuticals and nutrition supplements. More than 400 billion hard gelatin capsules are produced worldwide every year. The output volume of machines used to date has been max. 250,000 capsules per hour.

Maximum productivity, minimum space requirements

Fette Compacting presents its first capsule filling machine in the form of the FEC40. With an output volume of up to 400,000 capsules per hour, it sets new standards in the area of capsule filling - twice as many compared to other plants established on the market, thereby enabling users to reduce production costs per 1,000 capsules by up to 30 percent. This performance is made possible by the patented Duplex Concept offered by Fette Compacting, applying the company's experience from the development of double rotary tablet presses to capsule filling. Separate process steps have been merged for capsule filling. Fette Compacting has used the ensuing free stations for dual arrangement of the capsule filling process in the machine, thereby doubling output. As the filling process fully complies with the established production standards, users can apply all tried-and-tested process parameters for capsule filling and optimize them further where necessary.

Best performance during batch changes - TRI.EASY design ensures efficiency during operation, conversion and maintenance

The FEC40 also sees Fette Compacting consistently implementing the TRI.EASY design concept familiar from the tablet presses in the FE series. The idea behind it: only when technology is equally uncomplicated in terms of operation, conversion and maintenance can it also be efficient. The TRI.EASY design, therefore, focuses on the user and guarantees smooth production regardless of the users' experience or qualification level.

The FEC40 is available in two configurations: users can choose between two tamping pin stations and up to four pellet stations. Changes between tamping pin stations are made with the aid of a patented assembly system, making it possible to swiftly change between various dosing methods as well as between various products or batches. Thanks to this user-friendly assembly system, the stations can be dismantled and cleaned outside the machine, thereby significantly reducing standard conversion and cleaning times. Where additional pre-fitted filling stations are used, the FEC40 is ready for operation within only a short period of time.

The entire machine design is geared toward easy operation. Even when process equipment is connected, all of the window flaps on the FEC40 can be opened in full to permit access from all sides. The capsule magazines are positioned on the central column which means that they are easily reached and seen by the user. The FEC40 process area is free of cables and tubes as well as being separate from the drive area. The shape and materials of the entire process area interior and enclosure have been designed in such a way that they are easy to clean. An optional RFID system for detecting the appropriate format parts ensures maximum safety when converting the machine.

Focus on users - intuitive operation via a newly-designed Human Machine Interface

The FEC40 is controlled via a newly-developed Human Machine Interface (HMI) with a 19" touchscreen and an integrated keypad. The graphic user interface provides the user with a comprehensive overview of the relevant machine process and quality parameters at all times as well as the process equipment connected, whereby the basic user concept follows the logic familiar from the tablet presses in the FE series. Users already availing of experience with the FE series can simply apply these skills to operation of the FEC40. All formulations, including the process parameters, are saved in the FEC40 database, and can be accessed at any time. A formulation check automatically examines the entries for consistency. During production, all levels in the capsule and product container are continuously measured and processed in the controls. The corresponding user info is visualized on the HMI. Furthermore, all batches are monitored, logged and saved in full - operation of the FEC40 is therefore extremely simple.

The FEC40 also offers extensive rights management enabling users to assign certain functions to various user groups. Using the event logs stored, it is also possible to evaluate individual production steps and identify optimization potentials. In order to facilitate conversion and maintenance for users, interactive user instructions are stored in the HMI which visualizes all of the requisite work steps. Users can also store their own SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) and the FEC40 is configured in such a way that it can be connected to the Fette Compacting service portal, providing users with unique round-the-clock support via the secure, TÜV-certified platform.
